Melissa Wood, MMus

Adjunct Instructor - Voice
Do the things that challenge you, that push you to the edge of yourself, and watch how much your reliance shifts from you to your Creator. Challenging situations force us to look outside ourselves and depend solely on God.

Teaching Philosophy

It is my desire to help each student develop a solid technical foundation so that they are able to use their voice in whatever setting they feel called. Helping them understand that with good technique comes freedom to express, worship, communicate, and lead others without being a distraction.

She has starred as Ruth in Pirates of Penzance, Golde in Fiddler On The Roof, Marilla in Anne of Green Gables, Carlotta in Phantom, Katisha in The Mikado, Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast, Kate O'Dell in A Winter's Heart, Mabel in A Treasure for the Taking, Dot Willabough and Rosemarie in The Saint's of Crooked Creek, Glinda in Wizard of Oz. In 2013 Melissa had the privilege of studying under acclaimed Mezzo Soprano Paula Rockwell in Wolfville Nova Scotia. While studying in Nova Scotia, she was featured as a guest soloist at Wolfville Baptist Church's Lenten Concert Series.

Melissa has taught at Briercrest College in Caronport, SK for the past 14 years. She is passionate about teaching voice and helping her students to develop a deeper appreciation for music, while establishing a solid technical foundation. In addition to maintaining a full studio, Melissa is thrilled to begin studies at the University of Regina towards a Master in Music Vocal Performance, starting Fall 2018. She is the proud mother of three young children, Isabel, Hannah, and Felix, who enjoy music just as much as she does. Melissa loves mentoring young vocalists as they learn to develop the gifts they have been given.
