Camp Season Wrap Up

Posted: August 24, 2017

Camp season has wrapped up at Briercrest College. Over the past three weeks more than 300 boys and girls ages 12-18, participated in volleyball and basketball camps led by Briercrest athletes and coaching staff. Each camp focused on developing these young athletes not just on the court but off as well. Briercrest athletic director Nigel Mullan continues to be encouraged by growing camp numbers and the opportunity to reach more young people. “Each year we are excited for camp season to come around.  To see all the campers working hard on their athletic abilities and developing lasting relationships here is always encouraging to be a part of.  That our numbers involved with camp continue to increase gives testament to the hard work our camp staff puts in to care for the campers while they are with us.  We look forward to another great camp season next year building off the momentum built this year.” The camps allowed the athletes to grow their individual abilities through drills and practice times and learned to play as a team in scrimmages. New Briercrest Women’s basketball coach Patrick Havard was very excited to be a part of the camps for the first time, "It was a pleasure to see such a high number of young women growing their basketball skills and faith attending our camp. I believe this is one of the top basketball camp experiences in Western Canada and it was great to be a part of it" The athletes also heard from daily speakers who shared devotionals and encouraged the athletes to use their abilities to glorify God. Incoming men’s basketball coach Justin Wolverton echoed the statements of previous coaches “I’m very thankful to have been a part of the boy’s basketball camp. The campers worked hard all week, developing maturity and skill on and off the court, guided by the fantastic coaching staff and our guest speaker. I think I can confidently say that the week was a valuable experience for everyone involved.” All the athletes were left inspired to continue developing their skills as they start their seasons and to use their platform as an athlete to share their faith.
