Posted: October 15, 2018

The Men's basketball team opened their season on Friday night losing to the SAIT Trojans in a hard-fought match, with a 76-97 score.

The Clippers came out strong against the Trojans playing to capture their first win of the season against the two-time defending ACAC title holder. In the first quarter, there was back and forth play with a lot of physical action, and a 7-7 score by mid quarter. With two minutes left in the quarter, the Trojans worked hard with a 10-3 drive and came out on top at the end of the first leading 18-29.

The Clippers answered quick, hitting a three off the bat of the second quarter, and continued to battle, but couldn't keep up to the Trojans and #6 Ian Tevis who splashed 20 points in the first half, was key to the Trojans success leading the game 40-65 after the first half of play.

In the third quarter, both teams were seeking to push the ball, mostly scoring in transitions, fouls and turnovers. The Clippers couldn't seem to find their groove in the quarter, finishing off 50-80 in the third. The Clippers had a strong fourth quarter, winning the final quarter 26-17, but the Trojans closed the game off with the final score being 76-97. Rookie Shane Foster speaks about the next step to where the team needs to head: “We need to work on getting our reps in, transitioning defensively, and we just have to run the floor and finish.”
