JOB SUMMARY

The Carpenter helps keep the institution’s buildings functional and in good repair by performing carpentry related and various other maintenance tasks. These tasks will involve inside and outside work in all types of weather, and will also require emergency callout work when needed. Knowledge of and experience with all types of power and hand tools is important, and safe operation of the same is critical

Note: This is a full-time, permanent position (M-F, 8:00am-5:00pm)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Agreement to live within the Briercrest Institutional Covenant and align with the mission, vision, and values of Briercrest College and Seminary
  • Good understanding of all carpentry practices
  • Journeyman certificate or a willingness to work through the apprenticeship program is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of power and hand tools
  • General maintenance knowledge in other disciplines
  • Basic knowledge of computers (email, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to lift 35 kg
  • Be a strong team player
  • Previous management training or experience is an asset
  • Experience and or willingness to obtain certification in operating skidsteer, forklift an asset

DESIRED OUTCOMES & ACTIVITIES

  • Manage carpenter shop inventory
    • Order materials for the carpenter shop
    • Track materials use from the carpenter shop
    • Inventory year end count
  • Keep carpentry tools in good repair
  • Work with the Campus Operations team to complete all maintenance requests sent to the carpentry list within a reasonable time frame following standard safety practices at all times
  • Help with work load in other areas as assigned by supervisor
  • Working with Campus Operations team members in other disciplines such as plumbing, electrical, grounds and mechanical
  • Event preparations and tear downs.
  • Follow any and all government regulations having jurisdiction in this work area
  • Be a positive contributor to the Trades team

TEAM RELATIONSHIPS 

  • This position reports to the Director of Campus Operations
  • This position works closely with the Trades within the Campus Operations Department
